Time for a Change

"All things must change to something new, to something strange." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 - 1882)

It's time for a change at BIGSEA.

When I founded BIGSEA in 1997, I had intended to build an Internet consulting firm. Over time, the market drove us to focus on web development and web hosting services. Now, nearly six years later, it is time to refocus our efforts. As a result, we have made a strategic decision to discontinue our web development and web hosting services.

If you are an existing web development or web hosting customer, we will continue to service your account for as long as you require. However, if you don't currently have a web hosting or web development account with us, we are sorry to say that we are not accepting new accounts.

Our change in direction has caused us to re-evaluate the purpose of this web site. Over time, the focus of this site will change from a marketing and customer support tool to become a web site dedicated to covering news about technology, web development, and the Internet.

A good blogging tool makes this site possible.

If you have been paying attention to technology news over the last year or two, you have probably heard the terms "blog", "blogging", or "blogger". "Blog" is short for "web log", or an online log. A blogger is someone who writes for the web using weblog software, and blogging is what they are doing when they are writing.

Several years ago we implemented a content management system for our customers that was built on a software platform called Manila®. We customized the software to meet our customers needs for a private place to make changes to their web site and a separate public viewing area for when the changes had been approved.

We called our service "Rev9®" (short for Revision 9) because it made it easy for our clients to revise their web sites using only their web browser. It turns out that the platform we chose to build our Rev9® product on is also an excellent blogging tool.

So over the next several months, watch for this space to become more like an Internet technology blog and less like a marketing/customer support tool.

"If we don't change direction soon, we'll end up where we're going." Professor Irwin Corey (1914 - )

Onward!
